DeGreve, Sawmill Creek Join Young for Silver Lining Concert
by Wyoming Tribune on Aug 26, 1985

Cheyenne musical artist Michael DeGreve will open the “Silver Lining” Concert with Neil Young at Cheyenne’s frontier park Thursday, and Jackson based country-western band “Sawmill Creek” will perform between DeGreve and Young, organizers of the concert announced Thursday.

DeGrve has performed a solo guitar and vocals act at the Hitching Post Inn for the past eight years, and has a large following in Cheyenne and the surrounding area, according to Dick Skinner, an aide to Gov. Ed Herschler and chairman of the “Silver Lining” concert committee.

Skinner said DeGreve will perform songs such as Gypsy’s lament, which DeGreve wrote and performed with Graham Nash, formally of the Crosby Stills Nash and Young group.

The Sawmill Creek Band has performed in Cheyenne several times and was the feature attraction at the “Herschler Hoe Down” in Casper during the last gubernatorial campaign, Skinner said. “They play a great variety of western and country music,” Skinner said., “and will perform songs they have written and produced on their record albums.”

Folk-rock-country singer Neil Young will perform a wide range of music at the concert, Skinner said, and including music from his new country-western album “Old Ways,” featuring a song Young performed with Willie nelson, “Are There Anymore Real Cowboys?”

Skinner said he was pleased to have DeGreve and The Sawmill Creek band open the concert, which will be held at 07:30pm Thursday at Frontier Park. Tickets for the performance may be obtained by calling 778-7222, in Cheyenne, or 1-800-442-4191, outside of Cheyenne.

Ticket sales, according to Skinner have been “somewhat disappointing” thus far, with 1704 tickets having been reserved as of Thursday morning. “ I’M hoping that more people realize that this is a community effort and get behind it by buying a $10 or $12 ticket,” he said.

Skinner said adding DeGreve and Sawmill Creek to the performance will hopefully boost ticket sales because of their large following in Wyoming.
